FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

These are detailed answers to common questions that people may have about Lupine Family Medicine.

In a nutshell, it’s like Netflix.

You pay a membership fee per month but instead of movies, you will have access to the skills of a family physician who can take care of 80-90% of

your health care needs.

Once you are a DPC patient and want an appointment, you don’t have to wait weeks or months. You can have email, text, phone call, in-person, virtual visits with your physician VERY promptly - usually within 1-2

business days.

You will not have to sort through confusing medical bills. The pricing is very transparent and affordable. There is no waiting room to share germs with other people because there is no need for a waiting room.

Because insurance companies have been bypassed, your physician does not have to deal with seeing patients every 15 minutes, doing data entry in the computer and delegating your care to other people because they do not have the time to take care of you.

DPC doctors charge affordable rates in order to serve regular, working people and they do not bill insurance. Concierge doctors charge thousands of dollars and also bill insurance.

This is Dr. Hendrick’s version of direct primary care. Every DPC physician has their own version based on their skill set and personality.

It is a solo practice, which means Dr. Hendrick will always be your main physician to address your needs.

Lupine’s mission is to provide health care that is accessible, sustainable and evidence-based. Patients will often be greeted at the door by their

physician and visits are typically 30-60 minutes and conducted so that both will have the time needed to ensure personalized, comprehensive

care. It’s like having a doctor in the family.

At Lupine Family Medicine, we believe that the patient-physician relationship is sacred and is a major therapeutic part of the care that is provided. We also believe in science-based/evidence-based medicine. It is the basis for which we will tailor your care to meet your needs.

We charge an age-based monthly membership  Please see the pricing page for details. A higher monthly fee  is charged for a couple of specialized services: suboxone treatment and weight management. Email us for more information.

Dr. Hendrick will be attending to your medical needs at Lupine. She has been a board-certified family physician since 2007. She has plenty of experience delivering babies, taking care of very sick patients in the hospital and in the clinic setting. She enjoys being a “jack-of-all-trades”, seeing a variety of backgrounds and ages and guiding patients into their optimal health.

We can provide a full scope of medical services. Click this link for a detailed list of some of the things we can do for you. This list will keep getting updated on more services as equipment, staffing and funding for more procedures increase with more patients.

NO. For all the services that Lupine Family Medicine provides, you will pay us directly. We will NEVER bill your health insurance. For send out labs, medications, emergency care, specialists and imaging, you may use your insurance.

NO. Lupine Family Medicine will take care of ALL patients, with or without insurance.

We recommend that you have health insurance for unexpected and catastrophic needs to cover you in case of events such as a surgery, high end diagnostic tests, heart attack, stroke, or cancer care. But you do not need health insurance to access Lupine Family Medicine. It is like how you use your car insurance. You do not bill your car insurance for oil changes and car maintenance. You pay your mechanic directly. But heaven forbid you get in a wreck, that’s when your insurance comes in to play.

Some patients continue their standard commercial insurance plans and opt-in to a DPC membership for the benefits of improved access to their own physician and additional savings on labs, medications and time. Some will utilize a major medical plan with a high deductible and health savings account (HD/HSA) to ensure financial help should hospitalization or referral to a specialist be necessary but save on up front premiums. Others use health sharing ministries coupled with DPC care. Self-funded employers or small businesses may opt to offer a wrap around plan with DPC for their employees.

Lupine will never send a bill to Medicare because Dr. Hendrick is opted out of Medicare.

Patients who have Medicare insurance (or eligible for Medicare) will need to sign an agreement yearly to say that they will not use their insurance to pay for Lupine Family Medicine services.

A family physician can care for patients at all ages and stages of life. Even if you yourself are healthy always, there will be times when at least someone in your family will become ill or somehow need a medical treatment. Wouldn’t it be helpful if your physician knew you and your family well enough that they are there for you and your entire family during times of uncertain diagnosis and sickness?

An affordable monthly membership fee with Lupine Family Medicine will provide you an experienced family physician directly caring for you and your family.

If you would like further convincing that someone so healthy and has no bad habits and has never needed a doctor, please read Dr. Hendrick’s second blog about her journey with breast cancer.

You may go to the hospital or urgent care or see specialists like you have always done. Dr. Hendrick will always coordinate care and consult with specialists as needed for her patients.

Dr. Hendrick will do everything she can in her skill set and time allotted to take care of her patients so visits to emergency departments and urgent care are prevented. But being always available for urgent concerns may not always be feasible because the practice has to be sustainable in order

for Dr. Hendrick to continue caring for patients. To state the obvious, she can NOT be available 24/7, 365 days a year and continue to be a physician to her patients with any longevity. If this is your expectation for the monthly membership fee, you will be very disappointed so please stick with whatever it is you are doing now for your health care.

Dr. Hendrick will make herself available as often as

sustainable for the practice and help patients avoid the emergency department and urgent care. Thus, she will try to address urgent questions after hours. For example, you are wondering if you should go to the ER or urgent care for what seems like an urgent issue but you are not sure if you

can wait 1-2 days, by all means - call or text her. If she is available to respond, she will. If she does not and you cannot wait any longer and you feel it IS an emergency, please go to the emergency department/urgent care.

For non-urgent concerns such as refill requests, questions that have been plaguing you for years but just now remembered, etc - this will be sorted

through and addressed within 1-2 BUSINESS DAYS. For example, it’s Friday night and you remember you have been this annoying symptom that comes and goes for several months or years but you keep forgetting to mention it. You can send a message to chat about it or have a visit but probably you will not hear from Dr. Hendrick until Monday morning.

Dr. Hendrick intends to take care of her patients for many years to come. The patient/physician relationship works both ways - each can help each

other lead sustainable lives. Physicians who are thoroughly overworked, have no boundaries and have no time for themselves generally cannot sustain their practice and there are VERY high rates of depression, anxiety and suicide in the physician population even before the pandemic.

Dr. Hendrick is licensed in Washington, Oregon and California so she can take care of patients who live in those states. If you reside in those states and are traveling elsewhere, she can still take care of you and do video/phone/text/email visits.

Because we know you well, we can streamline your care when you’re sick away from home. Many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated with a simple conversation by phone, email, text or

webcam. We’ll locate the nearest pharmacy and order the medications most appropriate for your circumstances.

Simple medications/refills of NON-controlled substances can be prescribed.

If you are outside of the US, prescriptions and referrals are unable to be sent.

Please go to this secure website to register as a patient. Once we have your information, we can

help you schedule the visit. Your monthly membership fee will be charged AFTER you have had your first visit with Dr. Hendrick and monthly

thereafter.

Once you have established as a patient and you have had your first consultation with Dr. Hendrick, we will make every effort to address your concerns within 1-2 business days. Dr. Hendrick will only accept 5-10 new patients PER WEEK to allow for complete care of those who have already established.

Most practices have clinicians seeing at least 5 new patients PER DAY, usually more than that, and have to take care of all their other established patients. There are many consequences to this, two of which are lack of access and incomplete care.

All Lupine patients will get the phone number that directly connects them to the clinic via calling or texting. There is also an email address that is only for patients. Your physician will probably be the one to answer all of them. Please do NOT distribute this number or email address to anyone as it is ONLY for Lupine patients. This will prevent your physician from having to deal with things that are unnecessary and take time away from your care.

Yes. Dr. Hendrick will be the one to draw your blood until she reaches capacity to hire an assistant. Please email us if you know someone who is a kind, knowledgeable and adaptable person who is really good at drawing blood. There will soon be a very nice job at Lupine Family Medicine with plenty of interesting benefits.

Yes.

For member patients who have paid the monthly fee for at least 3 months, a 30-minute home visit is $150.

For NON-member patients, a one time, 30-minute home visit is $450.

Any additional time after that is billed at $95 per 15 minutes. There is an additional cost if greater than 10 miles away from Wenatchee downtown.

Of course, it is also VERY easy to do it all virtually if medically feasible.

In general, patients can be seen within 1-2 business days, probably sooner. This includes video/virtual/phone visits.

Dr. Hendrick plans to take time off like normal people. It will probably a few days every 3-4 months. She will give patients ample notice so they can get in before she takes a short break.

We believe in the benefits, safety and science of vaccination. Patients are strongly encouraged to keep immunizations up-to-date. We will help you

keep track which vaccines are recommended and when and how to get them.

Due to staffing, or lack thereof, Lupine Family Medicine can not administer vaccines at this time. We hope to do so once we have capacity.

Patients have several options:

  • Uninsured: free/discounted vaccination through Public Health Department
  • Insured: vaccination at an insurance based clinic
  • Insured: vaccination at a local pharmacy (check insurance coverage and age restrictions)

Please confer with your tax consultant to clarify tax consequences in your particular circumstances.

Yes.

However, we are unable to provide VERY important childhood vaccinations at this time. We would really like you to stay with your current pediatrician in order to get these vaccines in a timely manner.

Once we are able to administer childhood vaccines, we will market to babies and toddlers.

For now, we accept ages 14 and up as member patients but are able to see younger patients for one-time visits such as minor urgent visits for ear infections, sore throat and minor injuries as well as for sports physicals.

We maintain scrupulous standards of privacy. We are never obligated to provide any third party with a copy of your records unless you specifically ask that we do so.

Please give us your contact information  and we will set you up with a non-medical visit - over-the-phone, virtually or in person - to discuss this

with you.

To have effective primary and preventative care, you need to have a good, trusting relationship with your physician. This means you need to have continuity and access to your doctor. That is what the monthly membership fee is for. If you just want to pay at random and will not have ANY follow up concerns, that is rare. In any case, we offer these one-time visits at Lupine Family Medicine: sports physicals $50, CDL/DOT exam $200, medical cannabis authorization $200.

If this does not address your questions or you would like to have a brief, non-medical visit to discuss your particular situation, please contact us.
